PROTECTION FOR OAKVILLE TREES  
As of May 2nd, 2017 we have a new tree bylaw in Oakville




Tree Protection on Private Property

As of May 2nd, 2017, removing trees on private land in Oakville has become more difficult. With the new Private Tree Protection By-Law, property owners are required to apply for a permit and an on-site consultation before they can remove a tree that has a trunk measuring 15cm (5.9 inches in width) or larger in diameter. There is also now a fee.

Why the change? The change came from the need to protect, preserve and improve the town's urban forest. Oakville's urban forest is made up of town-owned street and park trees, those in forested areas as well as trees on private property. Currently half of Oakville's tree population sits on private land.

Neighbourhood Real Estate Stats

We run the stats every month for each of the neighbourhoods in Oakville and Burlington. The real estate boards don't analyze the stats by neighbourhoods, but this is the information you need to know when buying or selling. 

There has been a distinct shift in the market since April 20th when the government announced their Fair Housing Plan. This coincided with the usual increase in listings that comes in the spring. The result? The wind has been knocked out of the sails somewhat. As you can see from the stats (see the Link), the increased value of the equity for all homeowners has been well above the average. Even if the market takes a small step backwards, overall, homeowners will have realized big gains.

Janis Smith is a woman with high standards, a clear vision and impeccable taste. With these traits and a true passion for cookies, she has built a successful business - Elm Hill Cookies. 

With life experience on her side, Janis spent considerable time planning and fine-tuning her business plan. Attending pastry school to hone her craft, she also sought out brand specialists to help her create a distinct and unique Elm Hill Cookies brand. 

Located on Kerr Street in Oakville since 2010, passersby have a very hard time resisting the delicious smells wafting from the front of her shop. Shoppers then take note of a distinctive element of Elm Hills Cookies - their shape - all are square cut.  Janis wanted a distinctive look in comparison to other bakeries and store bought cookies. Hence the square was developed. "No corners cut - our slogan - speaks to the that," says Janis.
