I love numbers. I hated Calculus, but I really love numbers that relate to something concrete. We know statistics can be manipulated, and we know the media will pick the most sensational element of the data as their headline. This is why the thinking world is appalled at the thought that they may have been manipulated by social media to think or vote a certain way. Critical thinking is essential these days, with a dose of common sense thrown in for good measure.

I am sure you too read the press releases from the many organizations that report on real estate sales. Please do us a favour - read the entire story not just the headline. Be sure to note whether it is the prices that are up, or is it the number of homes on the market? Does the number crunching apply only to condo sales? In Toronto only? So many details to be aware of.

For some years now, we here at the NRTeam have analyzed the sales on a neighbourhood by neighbourhood basis. In Oakville and Burlington, there are 52 neighbourhoods that the real estate boards recognize, and we look at each one independently. We can provide year over year data, as well as month-to-month changes. For those who have asked, we provide data at least twice a year. Even if you are not interested in selling your home this year, it is important to keep track of your investment on an ongoing basis.

In recognition of other nerds like me, our website now offers free statistical data if you are interested in receiving information about your neighbourhood directly. We are happy to share!
