It was an exciting week in Halton with the full lockdown being lifted. We are still staying at home as much as possible, keeping our distance from loved ones and wearing masks everywhere we go. As restaurants are only open in such small capacities, it is still very important to support them through takeout options. With this, the Taste of Oakville and Taste of Burlington, is upon us at the perfect time and all available by takeout.

 

Taste of Oakville is a campaign put on through the town to highlight the local restaurants in our community, that includes special pricing and menu options. The restaurants this year are from all across Oakville, so it is a great opportunity to try out some local spots that you haven’t been to before or don’t get there often. This event generally happens twice a year: once in the winter and once toward the end of the summer. This year it will be running in Oakville from February 15th to March 6th, 2021.

Some of the items we will definitely be trying include:

 

• Nancy: Noble Bistro – Lemongrass Cured Icelandic Cod with mussel and bean cassoulet, squash and ginger pure
• Andrew: JACS Bistro – Pulled Pork Gnocchi with a rustic tomato sauce, roasted sweet peppers finished with fresh chive and green onion
• Joanna: Sugar Suite – Tasting Box, packed full of different sweets including millionaire bars cheesecake brownies, macarons, truffles and unique flavors of donuts and cupcakes

 

Taste of Burlington, much the same set up as that of Oakville. Their list has a total of 55 restaurants, and by joining in on the fun online you can be entered for a chance to win prizes between February 18th and March 21st, 2021. With a variety of options like the traditional prix-fixe menus, frozen prepared meals and cook at home meal kits, there is definitely something for everyone.

• Nancy: Spencer’s at the Waterfront – Crispy Crab Cake with confit green onion and aioli
• Andrew: Smoked by URG – Smoked Sampler Bundle that includes chicken drumsticks, beef brisket, pork belly, baby back ribs, and bacon & jalapeno corn bread
• Joanna: Lettuce Love Café (Also in Oakville) – Meatless meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy
